Lake Turkana National Park

Lake Turkana (Jade Sea or Lake Rudolf) i is an Oasis situated in the northern regions of Kenya. Strange yet beautiful, the oasis is known to locals as the Jade Sea because of its green color and size. The lake is great for fishing and canoeing but be careful of the island which has a lot of crocodile and hippo populations. The Semi-nomadic tribe that lives around the lake are interesting people and you won’t regret interacting with them and their interesting culture.

The most saline of Africa’s large lakes, Turkana is an outstanding laboratory for the study of plant and animal communities. The three National Parks serve as a stopover for migrant waterfowl and are major breeding grounds for the Nile crocodile, hippopotamus and a variety of venomous snakes. The Koobi Fora deposits, rich in mammalian, molluscan and other fossil remains, have contributed more to the understanding of paleo-environments than any other site on the continent.
